The Pittsford Central School District is a public school district in New York State that serves approximately 6100 students in the towns of Pittsford, Perinton, Penfield, Mendon, and Brighton in Monroe County; and Victor in Ontario County with over 1100 employees and an operating budget of $95 million (~$15,600 per student).[1]

The average class size is 20-24 students and the student-teacher ratio is 14:1 (elementary), 12:1 (middle-high school).[2]

Centralized in 1946, the Pittsford Central School District is Celebrating 60 Years of Excellence in 2006. The District is one of the top school districts in the county, the state and the nation. Its programs, staff and curriculum are considered among the best available in schools anywhere.[3][4]

The District's motto is "Excellence Today and Tomorrow".

Mary Alice Price is the Superintendent of Schools; she formerly was the Superintendent of the Churchville-Chili Central School District. Price was named Superintendent of the Year in New York State in 2008.[5]

Board of education

The Board of Education (BOE) consists of 7 members who reside in the Pittsford School District. Members serve rotating 3-year terms. Elections are held each May for board members and to vote on the School District Budget.

Schools

The Pittsford Central School District operates five elementary, two middle and two high schools across the district. By convention, the District names schools for the road on which they are found.

A major remodeling and construction program was begun in 2004. This involves modernization of existing buildings, expansion of SHS, and the building of the new CRMS. The SHS remodeling was completed in 2007, while the building of CRMS wascompleted in time for the 06-07 school year

Attendance Paths

The Pittsford School District is roughly divided into a northern and a southern half, and most students follow an attendance path through the schools based on where they live.

Performance

Pittsford students rank high academically in standard and specialized tests. More than 95% of Pittsford students graduate with an Honors diploma. A high percentage move on to college.

In June 2007, the American Music Conference recognized the district as being among the 2007 "Best 100 Communities for Music Education"[7]

In 2007, Park Road Elementary School was named one of 287 schools in the country as 2007 No Child Left Behind Schools by the United States Department of Education.[8]

The two high schools have made regular appearances in the annual list of top 100 public high schools nationwide published by U.S. News and World Report.
